How Open Door Became a Lifeline in Beaufort County
Open Door Women’s Shelter started with a shared vision. A group of leaders in Beaufort County saw a critical gap in services for women experiencing homelessness. There were resources for families and for men, but very little designed specifically for women and their children. That gap pushed us to take action.
We opened in 2017 with one goal. Provide safe shelter and real support to women in crisis. From our first resident to the many we serve today, we’ve continued building a place where women can stabilize, grow, and take back control of their lives.
Our journey has always been powered by community. Volunteers, donors, local partners, and organizations have helped us expand our services and strengthen our impact. Today, Open Door stands as a trusted resource in Beaufort County, rooted in compassion and driven by purpose.
The journey is ongoing. The mission continues. And every person who walks through our doors becomes part of this story.
On this website, we offer easy-to-use links for sale financial contributions. Additionally, we maintain an up-to-date Amazon Wishlist. However, due to storage constraints, we can't accept clothing or shoe donations. Still, feel free to ask about particular sizes, as we might have a resident who requires them.
The best way to start the volunteer process is to get in contact with us through this form. We'll give you a call to go over options and best fits, and find out more about you in the process too!
We are located at 1240 Cowell Farm Road in Washington, NC.
